Age Verification

What is Age Verification?

The Age Verification mechanism helps prevent SNAP Account holders from purchasing goods or services that carry a legal minimum age limit (such as alcoholic and gambling products) until the Account Holder has had their age verified and their SNAP Account identified as Age Verified.

Age Verification requires a SNAP Account holder to make a recorded declaration that they are at least 18 years of age.

To become Age Verified, you must log in to your SNAP Wallet and click on 'Age Verification'. You will need a telephone, a pen and paper available before you start the Age Verification process.

You must then complete the page with the telephone number. As you go through the process, you will receive an automated phone call from our system that will ask you to state both your full name and a declaration of your age. If we are satisfied that you are over the age of 18, you will be told a code that you must enter into the web page.

Once successfully completed, you will be able to use the SNAP Account to purchase Age Restricted goods and services.

If you have a SNAP Wallet with more than one SNAP Account recorded in it, you can select which Accounts you wish to identify as Age Verified if you complete Age Verification for the Wallet.

The goods / services I was buying were not Age Restricted

We are unable to determine, at present, whether the particular goods or services that are being bought carry an age restriction. Because of this, if a Merchant sells both age restricted goods and non-restricted goods, they are registered with us as if all the goods and services they sell carry an age limit. We will therefore not authorise a transaction with that Merchant from a SNAP Account that has not been Age Verfified.
