Topping Up

How do I add funds or Top Up my SNAP Account?

Loading funds for the first time, or Topping Up an existing Account, is simple and can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Cash Load or Top Up
  2. SNAP Transfer or Send

Cash Load

Cash can be loaded into your Account at any of the Resellers listed on our Store Locator or at any UK Post Office. Just give the counter staff the amount you would like to add to your card (which must be a fixed amount of £20, £25, £30, £35, £40, £45, £50, £75 or £100).

The counter staff will then swipe your card through their terminal, which loads the value you requested. Please ensure that you get a receipt that details the SNAP Account Number, the amount loaded, the Reseller's shop name and the date and time of the Top Up.

If you Load or Top Up at a Post Office, crediting your Account may take 24 hours or longer.  At other Resellers, your funds will be credited to your Account within 10 minutes of Topping Up.

SNAP Transfer or Send

Funds can be loaded into a SNAP Account from another SNAP Account by using the Transfer or Send functions. See Transfer and Send for more information.

The Reseller that I went to didn’t have any SNAP cards

Please accept out apologies. Occasionally a Reseller will run out of SNAP Cards. Sometimes, although the owner of every Reseller we list has been notified about SNAP and has both received SNAP Cards and had their terminal(s) updated to accept SNAP Top Ups, they may not have told the shop staff about SNAP.

Please contact us, giving your address, and we'll post you a SNAP Card directly. Also, if you let us know which Reseller you went to, we'll have them restocked with Cards as well.

A Top Up / Load attempt was unsuccessful

This was most likely because the Top Up would have caused the Account to exceed the Account Limit, which is currently set at £100.

If this is not the case, it may be that your Account has breached one of the other limits that we must impose as a result of FSA or Anti-Money Laundering rules and regulations. See Transaction Limits for further details.

I've changed my mind and want my money back

After Topping Up at a Reseller, you have 10 minutes to change your mind, cancel the Top Up and get your money back from the Reseller. After that 10 minutes has passed, your Account will have been credited and you must redeem your funds using the 'Redeem' function (see Redeeming funds from SNAP).

My account has not been credited

If you loaded your funds at a branch of the Post Office, the funds will not be credited to your account at least until the next working day. Sometimes this may take two or three days.

Only some of the funds I loaded have been credited

If the funds that you wish to add cause your SNAP Account to exceed the £100 limit, then:

  1. At an Authorised Reseller, the transaction will not be allowed and the Reseller should return your money to you.
  2. At a Branch of the Post Office, the transaction may not be prevented. In such an event, we will credit only what we can to your SNAP Account. You must then contact us to allow us to provide you with another SNAP Account Number and PIN, to which we will credit the surplus funds.
