The 'Transfer' function allows you to move funds from one SNAP Account to another. To do this, you will need to know both the origin and destination SNAP Account Numbers. This function might be used either to 'buy' goods from another individual (not a Merchant), for example on an auction site, or to transfer pocket money into a child's SNAP Account.
Please make sure that you enter the correct destination SNAP Account Number, because once you confirm the Transfer, it cannot be cancelled.
The 'Send' function allows you to 'Send' money to someone who does not have a SNAP Card or whose SNAP Account Number you do not know.
Once you have completed the 'Send' page, we create a new SNAP Account Number and we send a message, by e-mail and / or SMS, to the e-mail address or mobile phone number you provided in the Send page. The message includes the new SNAP Account Number, the available balance in the new Account (i.e. the amount you have sent) and your message.
Please make sure that the e-mail address and / or mobile number is correctly entered.
We do not, however, include in the message the PIN that you created for the new SNAP Account because this would not be secure. You will need to communicate the PIN separately, for example by calling them, or getting them to call you.
This might either be because you were attempting to Transfer or Send more money than you have in your Account, or because you have exceeded the total amount that you can Transfer or Send in one year (see Transaction Limits).
The SMS and / or e-mail message you have received will contain a new 19-digit SNAP Account Number along with the amount that has been sent to you and a message from the person that sent the funds to you, normally including their name.
The first thing you should do is contact the sender to obtain the PIN, as you will need the PIN to access the new Account.
Once you have got the PIN, the next thing you should do is change it to a new PIN known only to you (see Your PIN).
You use the SNAP Code and PIN to go shopping online straight away. You can also transfer the funds (see What is Transfer? above) to a physical SNAP Card that you already have, or which you can pick up from participating Resellers (see Where to Get SNAP).
Maybe the message contained in the e-mail or SMS you received gives you a clue as to who it came from. If you really don't know, contact us and we will try to help you. Unfortunately, we can not tell you what the PIN is as we do not know ourselves, but we may be able to help you identify who it was that sent you the funds.
