Your PIN

What is the PIN?

The PIN (or Personal Identification Number) is a number that we use to identify you as the holder of a particular SNAP Account. In effect, it's your 'signature' for that SNAP Account. If you have more than one SNAP Account, then it's up to you whether you use the same or different PINs on each Account.

You will be asked to enter your PIN at any time you make a transaction that will remove funds from your Account.  This allows us to confirm that it is you making the transaction, and not someone who may have found or stolen your SNAP Card.

When you get a SNAP Card, there will be a four digit PIN concealed behind a Scratch Panel on the back of the card. You should change this as soon as you can by logging into MySNAP and then selecting Change PIN.

As with any PIN, you should keep it safe and secret.  We recommend that you change your PIN on a regular basis.

I've forgotten my PIN

Our systems are designed so that the PIN is always transmitted and stored in an encrypted form. This means that even we don't know what your PIN is, and so, unfortunately, we can't just tell you if you forget it.

If you do forget your PIN, please contact us, giving your name, your SNAP Account number and a phone number that we can reach you on. We will then call you and ask you some questions that, if answered correctly, may allow us to create a new Account for you and to which we can transfer the balance from your old Account. You must be aware that we are not obliged to do this and that we may refuse to do so if we feel we haven't received sufficient information to reliably identify you as the genuine owner of the SNAP Account in question.
